20 Sep Rally in the Valley
On Saturday, September 17, approximately 3,000 charter school families, staff members, and teachers attended a Rally in the Valley to celebrate charter school reform in that geographic area. Almost 1,000 of those attending the event were from PUC.
The Rally included a march through Pacoima that ended at Vaughn Next Century Learning Center
The Northeast San Fernando Valley was one of the first communities in California to embrace charter legislation, beginning with the conversion of Vaughn Elementary School, then Fenton Elementary School, and then Montague Elementary School, which was followed by the founding of our own PUC schools beginning in 1999.
Gaby Reynoso, a PUC Alumni and a teacher at PUC Community Charter Middle School, inspired the crowd speaking about her journey in PUC charter schools that was amazing despite the facilities challenges.
Congressman Tony Cardenas, Raul Bocanegra, Board Member Monica Ratliff and other elected officials also spoke at the Rally. LAUSD Board member Monica Garcia was also present at the event.
