21 Sep PUC Freshmen Spend the Morning at Mission College

Today, approximately 440 ninth grade students from PUC Community Charter Early College High School, PUC Triumph Charter High School, PUC Lakeview Charter High School, and PUC Nueva Esperanza Charter High School spent the morning on the Mission College campus in Sylmar.
The students from the 4 PUC high schools in the Valley were warmly welcomed by Mission College’s staff, and learned about the many benefits of taking concurrent enrollment college courses while in high school. Taking college classes while still in high school is the essence of the Early College model, which has always been a foundational element in the vision of our PUC high schools.
One of the highlights of the event was when Dr. Monte Perez, Mission College’s President proudly shared that starting in Fall 2017, PUC High School graduates would be eligible to receive one-year of FREE community college at Mission College. This announcement follows Mayor Eric Garcetti’s announcement of The Los Angeles College Promise, which will provide one year of tuition at any of the nine L.A. Community College District campuses to all full-time enrolled qualifying students graduating from LAUSD and LAUSD authorized charter high schools, staring in fall 2017 (eligibility requirements have not been shared).
The students very much enjoyed their morning on the college campus.
