15 Dec PUC Schools Will Not Require COVID-19 Vaccinations in the New Year

This message is to inform you that PUC Schools will not be requiring students or staff members to be vaccinated for COVID-19 as we continue the 2021-2022 school year when we return from our winter break in January. As an organization, we are highly encouraging everyone who is eligible to get vaccinated. However, we will not require those vaccinations until we are mandated to do so.

In the past, we have said that we would make decisions using science, guidance, and data. Based on the data we have gathered in the first half of the school year, we feel confident that we can carry on without requiring vaccinations. We know that the safety measures we have put in place at our schools – including daily screenings, weekly testing, and mask wearing – have helped to keep our case numbers low. In fact, since beginning the school year, we have not had a single outbreak at any one of our 14 schools. Since August 16^th, we have administered more than 65,000 COVID-19 tests and in that time, we have had just 36 COVID cases, a positivity rate of just .06%.

We will continue to keep our safety measures in place to help ensure those numbers remain low. However, if the guidance changes or it becomes required by law that students and staff members need to be vaccinated, we will be sure to notify you as soon as possible.

Este mensaje es para informarle que PUC Schools no requerirá que los estudiantes o miembros del personal sean vacunados contra COVID-19 mientras continuamos el año escolar 2021-2022 cuando regresemos de nuestras vacaciones de invierno en enero. Como organización, animamos a todas las personas elegibles para vacunarse se vacunen. Sin embargo, no requeriremos las vacunas hasta que tengamos el mandato de hacerlo.

En el pasado, dijimos que tomaríamos decisiones utilizando la ciencia, la orientación y los datos. Según los datos que hemos recopilado en la primera mitad del año escolar, estamos seguros de que podemos continuar sin requerir de vacunas. Sabemos que las medidas de seguridad que hemos implementado en nuestras escuelas, incluidas las evaluaciones diarias, las pruebas semanales y el uso de mascarillas, han ayudado a mantener bajos nuestros números de casos. De hecho, desde que comenzamos el año escolar, no hemos tenido un solo brote en ninguna de nuestras 14 escuelas.
