As part of a 17-year old PUC tradition, the incoming 6th grade PUC middle school students in the Northeast San Fernando Valley begin their middle school years on the campus of California State University Northridge. This tradition began when the facility for the first PUC School, Community Charter Middle School, was not ready on time for the school’s opening in 1999. At PUC Achieve Charter School in Rochester, the first day of Common Core testing began with cheers, and teachers, administrators and parents welcoming students with support and hugs. While some families across the state opted-out of the test, 177 of the 178 students at Achieve took the Englsh Language Arts state test.
