Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
The Early College High School Initiative, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in partnership with Carnegie Corporation of New York, the Ford Foundation, and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, selects non-profit organizations to serve as intermediaries to establish Early College High Schools based on the initiative’s Core Principles. In general, the initiative funds intermediaries over five years to establish a minimum of six Early College High Schools—either new schools or schools that are redesigned. Organizations selected to be intermediaries typically represent large constituencies, such as national and state-based higher education or K-12 education reform organizations, large school districts, national and regional organizations serving specific populations, and state or community foundations. Grant funds are intended to leverage public dollars and serve only to support the planning and start up of Early College High Schools, not to sustain them. Proposals from intermediaries wishing to implement Early College High Schools are by invitation of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation only.
